Find Greene County Released Mugshots

The official Greene County sheriff app no longer displays arrest mugshots, and the county jail website has no photo gallery. Finding a mugshot of a released Greene County inmate now begins with an official booking-photo request. A state corrections person page may show a different photo when the person entered the NCDAC system. Court records and news archives can add identity and disposition context, but an old image does not prove present custody or guilt. Greene County booking-photo research should preserve the source, booking episode, and date while treating unofficial copies with care.

Greene County App Removed Mugshots

The official “Greene County Sheriffs Office” app launched in January 2025 with arrests and news. Its Apple App Store version history records a direct policy and product change: version 25.3.0, dated March 4, 2025, says “Removed arrest mugshots.” A current search should not send readers to the app for a photo that the documented version removed.

The app may still carry agency news, contacts, anonymous tips, and alerts. Local launch coverage described arrest content, but that older description predates the Greene County mugshot removal. Neither source establishes a current release-photo archive. The change concerns public display in the app; it does not establish that the Sheriff's Office destroyed the underlying booking image.

The version record explains why the official request channel now matters more than an app search.

Greene County Mugshot Sources Compared

Greene County mugshot channels serve different records. A county booking photograph documents the jail intake. An NCDAC photo belongs to a state corrections record and may have been taken in another setting. A news image is editorial material, while an unofficial mirror may be old, mislabeled, or detached from the case outcome.

VINELink can help identify a reporting agency and custody status, but the research does not establish it as a reliable Greene County mugshot archive. Match on full name, birth information, booking or offender number, and agency. A Greene County booking photograph alone is not a safe identity match.

Note: Preserve the image source and access date so a later correction can be directed to the right custodian or publisher.

Request a Greene County Booking Photo

Start with the Greene County public-information page or its written request form. Requests may be emailed to PublicInformation@GreeneCountyNC.gov. For a jail image, identify the Greene County Sheriff's Office, 110 SE First Street, Snow Hill, NC 28580, at 252-747-3411 or gcso@greenecountync.gov, and name the Detention Center record. The official Sheriff's Office page names Matt Sasser as Greene County sheriff.

  1. Identify the person with full legal name and date of birth. Add the booking number when known.
  2. Give an approximate booking or release date so staff can locate the correct episode without a broad search.
  3. Request an electronic copy of the existing booking photograph as a separate record. Also request the booking summary if needed to tie the image to the event.
  4. Exclude confidential medical, juvenile, victim, security, and intelligence material from the request.
  5. If the photo is withheld, ask for the statutory basis and any separable public portion. Wait for the county's notice about cost or added time.

G.S. 132-1.4 identifies public arrest and incident information while treating criminal investigation and intelligence records differently. Availability of a photograph can depend on how the agency maintains it and on lawful exceptions. A request is not a promise of production.

G.S. 132-6 calls for access and copies as promptly as possible, but supplies no fixed turnaround. G.S. 132-6.2 governs media and actual-cost fees for ordinary uncertified copies. Ask for an estimate before authorizing a special service charge.

Greene County State-Offender Photos

NCDAC Offender Public Information can display a person photograph along with the offender number, inmate status, supervision status, sentence history, actual and projected release dates, and location fields. Use the offender number when available. If searching by name, compare a second identifier before opening or reporting the record.

The image is an NCDAC state-offender photo, not necessarily the Greene County booking photograph taken at Greene County Detention Center. That difference is especially important here because Greene County contains Greene Correctional Institution, Eastern Correctional Institution, and Maury Correctional Institution. A person may have a state corrections photo without ever having the same image in the county jail record.

For a released state prisoner, read the photograph with the status panels. An Actual Release Date and inactive inmate status can support departure from prison, while active post-release status means NCDAC community authority continues. A new location or Last Movement Date alone may show only a transfer.

Greene County Mugshot Record Limits

A Greene County booking photograph remains tied to an arrest record after physical release. It does not prove conviction, guilt, present jail custody, or the final charge result. Check the North Carolina eCourts Portal and the Greene County clerk's file for bond, dismissal, plea, judgment, sentence, or expunction entries. The Greene County Courthouse is at 301 N. Greene Street in Snow Hill, and the clerk can be reached at 252-747-6200.

Chapter 132 begins from public ownership of government records but includes exceptions. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, victim-identifying, security-sensitive, and some correctional materials may be restricted. The public status of some arrest facts does not mean every record in an investigative file must be disclosed.

FCRA use restriction: This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Mugshot data may not be used for employment, housing, credit, tenant, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered purpose.

For purpose-neutral identity or court-record verification, preserve the booking number and later disposition with the image. The custody and court records carry more probative weight than a photo copied without context.

Greene County News Photo Context

Sheriff news releases, app news, social posts, and local reporting can retain an arrest image after the public-facing jail channels change. These sources may help locate an older photograph or establish when it was published. They are secondary records. A report made near arrest may omit a later dismissal, plea, sentence, or expunction.

Commercial mugshot publishers and data brokers may also mirror old images. No such site is linked or endorsed here. Their copy is not an official source for current custody, release date, identity, charge outcome, or correction. A demand for money to remove an image does not make the underlying page accurate.

When a news or unofficial copy is the only visible Greene County mugshot, trace it back to the originating agency if possible. Then compare the court file and custodian's record. If the image is wrong or lacks later context, give the publisher the exact booking or case identifier and the official disposition.

Note: An old arrest image can remain online after release, so pair it with the current court and custody record.

Correct Greene County Mugshot Records

An expunction is a court process that removes qualifying charges or convictions and seals or destroys covered state records. Eligibility varies by statute and case history. The North Carolina Judicial Branch expunction resource explains that some relief follows dismissal while other provisions, including G.S. 15A-145.5, measure from completion of the whole sentence, including supervision.

Expunction does not guarantee that every independent copy vanishes at once. For an official error, send the custodian the exact field, booking or offender number, record URL, claimed correction, and supporting judgment, dismissal, release entry, or expunction order. For a news or unofficial copy, use that publisher's correction or removal process with the same official proof.

North Carolina considered publish-for-pay mugshot proposals, including Senate Bill 660 in 2021 and House Bill 778 in 2023. The research found no enacted statewide anti-pay-to-remove section matching those proposals. A bill should not be cited as current law, and paid-removal services should not be treated as an official correction route.

The Greene County record custodian is the first stop. A search engine does not change the underlying government record. If an official record is corrected or sealed, preserve the agency response and direct later requests to copies that still display the outdated material.

Verify Greene County Mugshot Identity

Start a Greene County mugshot match with identifiers, not facial resemblance. Compare the full name, middle initial, date of birth or age, booking or offender number, county, and court case number. Common names and old images create false matches. Do not invent aliases to force a result.

Next, identify the custodian. The Greene County jail release entry covers the Snow Hill booking. NCDAC covers state prison and community-supervision history. A court file explains the case outcome. If a person was transferred from the jail to NCDAC, the county booking image and state corrections photo may document different stages of one custody sequence.

A released result is agency-specific. Transfer to another authority is not community release. For the official recent-release fallback and its time-bounded record request, use the Greene County 24-Hour Releases route. The Greene County released-inmate search connects jail, court, state, federal, and immigration systems for a named person.
